Don Hoover founded the business in 1971 and managed it for 17 years until the construction of I99 prompted his son to take the reins. The dough is crafted daily by a consistent artisan. Recognizable by its signature dancing yellow lights, the establishment is a hidden gem tucked away on a dead-end road. Located across from the East Freedom Walmart, just follow the glow of those yellow lights. Don’s Pizza extends its gratitude for being recognized as the Hometown Favorite Pizza of 2023. Their distinctive yellow lights and custom pizza boxes set them apart. For many, Don’s Pizza isn’t just a meal—it’s a food group. Their square sheet pizzas, especially the original pepperoni, are beloved, but customization is always an option, whether you’re ordering by the slice or the sheet. In addition to pizza, they offer round pies, strombolis, and gluten-free options.

Pacifico Bakery started over 60 years ago and continues today to be the areas leading producer of quality breads. The business was started in 1947 by Angelo Pacifico after he was laid off from the railroad. The business was Incorporated with three sons as officers in 1964 when Angelo retired. Leonard, Alfred and Ralph then took over the business’s reins.

In 1965, due to crowded conditions at the bakery, a decision was made to purchase Fairview Bakery. The family operated both locations until 1972, when all productions for the business was moved to the Fairview location. Several local bakeries were purchased to help increase sales and production and added into the Pacifico Bakery Family.

Today Pacifico Bakery is running an operation larger than ever, producing fresh baked breads, rolls
and more on the daily. There are over 60 workers employed at Pacifico Bakery.

Pacifico’s has become a family tradition in this area and continues to provide families with delicious breads. As Pacifico Bakery continues to grow the main mission continues:

“We strive to maintain the same quality and tradition that Angelo and his sons worked so hard to achieve.”

Roll’s Meats was established in 1947 by three McCaulley brothers of Bellwood, Pennsylvania. Rowan, Lloyd, and Frank McCaulley, began their butcher shop and delivery service with two hundred dollars and the support and advice of several local businessmen who wanted to give them a “hand up” in the community.

As children of the depression, the McCaulley brothers’ motivation was to work hard and use their talents to provide for their families. Each brother brought valuable qualities to the business. Rowan, “Roll”, for which the store was named, was knowledgeable in food service and production, and very skilled with a knife. Lloyd was genuine, charming, customer-service oriented, and gifted in the area of sales. Frank was honest, disciplined, dedicated, and excellent at buying and bookkeeping. This made a combination of abilities that would become the beginning of an establishment that would serve the community and support many families financially through the decades.

Built in 1826, Tyrone Milling Company started as a grist mill, grinding local wheat and other grains into flour.  Area farmers would bring their grain crops to be ground into usable products.  For this service, the miller was usually paid one-tenth of the total amount collected.  The Mill, located in Ironville PA, was built alongside the Little Juniata River, which provided a steady water supply to power the horizontal water wheel used in those early days.  During its long history, the Mill has changed hands six times.  The previous owners’ names included the Lyon, Stewart, Beyer, Kessler, Johnson, and now the Hershey Family.
